One hour crow

I wanted to create a mosaic like a sketch, a painting and a poem...

He is clunky and a little crabby but I like him fine.

Crows!

My shop was broken into while I was on vacation with my kids. Fortunately nothing was stolen or destroyed - aside from my glass door. I thought I should make some protection idols for the space and crows are what came to mind. I think I will make one more and then maybe I will be done.

Daily Diner

I finished these walls shortly before Christmas for a restaurant called the Daily Diner run by the Union Gospel Mission

The Union Gospel Mission (UGM) is a nonprofit provider of services for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. Through the Our Daily Bread training program, UGM will teach meaningful job skills to homeless people in order to help them change their lives. To accomplish this, UGM will develop and manage a for-profit restaurant that incorporates a culinary arts training program which will train and educate up to 30 clients per year. This business will be a self-sustaining enterprise with profits returning to the training program.

I forgot to take detail photos of the walls but there are cup hands and interesting plates  with lots of memories incorporated into mosaic on these walls.

As with everything I could not have accomplished all it without the help of many, many friends! xo

Happy New Year!

I have just returned from my annual trip to northern Minnesota. I look forward to this trip from the moment a get into my car to head home every year. I go with a large group of friends and our ever growing families. This was our 10th year in the same location. I think its been about 18 or so years all together. Above is a photo of 2 of my 3 children underneath the Hegman lake Pictographs.  We had a lovely little ski/ snow shoe trip across the frozen ice to see them, so amazing!

I may be inspired to mosaic that lovely moose or some other wild life...

The last 2 months were incrediable busy with mosaicing two restaurants I have a brief break now to reflect and plan for the coming year. I feel very excited for a new beginning!

180 degrees

I am so grateful to my good friends who helped me with the installation this past weekend (Angie, Greta, Lorin, Tara, Charlene and Louise it would not have happened with out you all!) it was a blustery 40 plus degrees and lots of work.  It was an honor to be asked to create a mosaic mural for 180 degrees this is some of what they do- Since 2001, 180 Degrees, Inc. has contracted with Ramsey County to provide juvenile probation case management services. Ramsey County recognized the need for specialized services for juveniles who face multiple barriers. Under the umbrella of Ramsey County Human Services, case managers work with juveniles placed on probation through the Juvenile Court. Case managers report the progress of a youth directly with the juvenile court. The goal is to provide community-based services that will address the needs of these juveniles and reduce placement.
Case Managers work with any juvenile placed on probation involved in a Human Services program such as Child Protection or Children’s Mental Health. Case Managers work closely with other Human Services workers to develop a plan that ensures clients will be successful in the community. At the same time, Case Managers are responsible for holding juveniles accountable if he/she fails to follow through with programming in the community.
