Playing

Still playing ...
I think of these pieces as beads each one is approximately 12 inches tall by 10 inches wide. Each has a steel pipe running through it- eventually they will all be stacked on top of each other with another rod running through them. For right now I am just playing.

Life size and beyond

I have been working on a series of things... Mostly experiments I am practicing for some large sculptures for outside my building. I don't have any signage and I am not keen on it either. I just want to have a series of playful objects that invite people in or at least encourage people to stop and look.

This is my first hand sized hand made from glass frit and a cut out heart from another failed piece of fused glass... I love reuse!

Fragments of slate

The plan right now is to have 8 -10 pieces stacked

I put a steel rod through each one and I have a 12 foot pole they will be strung on...

This one is my favorite, I love the texture, the material was given to me (thanks Diane!) we think its porcelain but I don't know for sure.

It's funny about scale, when I started planning this I thought a 12 pole sounded big but next to the building it hardly makes a dent so this will probably be the smallest.

Coming out for air and sunlight

Summer finally made it to Minnesota and I can come out to play soon. I am headed up to Lake Superior on Friday-our ocean.

I have spent the last three months working on panels for Dubai, 2 school residencies and a library residency. With little time to settle into my beautiful new space my office is still full of packed boxes... I can begin unpacking next week, right?

We laid out the panels for Dubai in the park - which is our backyard Yay! So we could see them all together before they left.

Thanks to the greatest assistants ever Tara, Eamonn, Adrienne and Iris!

The texture in the white area is so nice, I wish I could show it better.
This was the smallest only 2 panels about six feet long.
This was the largest 15 panels! I could not get a full picture of it.
Everything has been really fun to do and I am sooooo tired.

Now on to my next dreams of whirligigs and spinning mosaics outside the studio more photos to come..

Oh my Dubai!

I am low on words but thought I would share some pictures of one of the mosaics I am making for a restaurant in Dubai. I believe it's 47 feet long- Grouting will begin tomorrow and then the edging. There are four large mosaics in total. I am excited and exhsausted and so grateful I have the best assistants ever!

My/OUR new home!

After nearly nine years at 595 Snelling Ave. my shop Mosaic on a Stick is getting a new- old home. The new site is only one block north and east of my current location, 1564 Lafond Ave. The Building was built by Cap Wiginton more on Cap here in 1938. It has been a very long process- far longer then I ever thought it would be. Still we are not there yet -the floors have been stipped and soon cleaned and polished.Walls to be torn down and new ones put up fresh coats of colorful paint applied.... Lots to do. We move in on Saturday!!!

So many memories have happened here many pieces of art created and wonderful people have shared their stories and their hearts with all of us.

I received a letter from an old friend of the stick with this beautiful bead she made you can see her web site here

The hardest part has been the packing of all my art supplies- I can hardly bare to be away from them for a minute, but of course I have plenty to do!

And when things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.

OH!
THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!

deflecter shields ON

Not to worry this wonder woman (? ) is protected!

I gave myself 10 minutes to play yesterday to relieve the stress of mountains of paperwork. Sneak peek soon to come.
